Book Launch Promotion: My Extra-Special Aunty

19/06/2024

We are honoured to have played a role in the journey of a truly special children's book - one that is not only Hong Kong's first children's book illustrated by migrant domestic workers, but is also a catalyst for supporting marginalized communities.

Celebrating the launch of 'My Extra-Special Aunty'

Written by filmmaker Joanna Bowers, and illustrated by Cristina Cayat and Noemi Manguerra (co-founding members of migrant worker artist collective, Guhit Kulay) the impact of this book goes far beyond the pages! Not only is it Hong Kong's first children's book illustrated by migrant domestic workers, but also all proceeds from sales and events are donated to Enrich HK and PathFinders Hong Kong, organizations dedicated to supporting and empowering migrant domestic workers in our community.

This was most certainly an extra-special project for us! Working with a diverse team that included the author, illustrators, and the teams at Enrich and PathFinders, we led the book's launch campaign, including developing the website and messaging, supporting media outreach, coordinating bilingual social media promotion, sponsorship packages, and distribution logistics. We also organized a heartwarming Family Fun Day & Book Launch event at Asia Society Hong Kong, where families and aunties (over 200 people) came together to celebrate the book through interactive activities, meeting the author and illustrators, and viewing a special art exhibition by Guhit Kulay!

We were delighted to work with the 'My Extra-Special Aunty' team on this meaningful project which truly showcases the power of storytelling, representation, and grassroots collaboration.
